Rededication of Ickleton Church 1981 and Visit of Prince Philip 1982

In August 1979, an arsonist set fire to the church causing not inconsiderable damage. Photos of the damage and repair work can be found in an album in Building Details, Church, Fire.  The Church was rededicated on 23 June 1981.  Amongst the artefacts lost was the painted (Georgian?) royal coat of arms which had hung in the nave. The Queen was kind enough to offer to provide a replacement. On 23rd June 1982, amidst great public excitement Prince Philip visited the church to see the completed restoration work and the new painting for himself.
