D666 - Map of holdings of Clare College and John Pytches in the common fields 1795

Pre-inclosure map showing old inclosures, strips in open fields, farmsteads, Church and other buildings, heldges, roads and tracks, bridge and ford, river, ditch and springs. The plan names fields and furlongs, Church, roads and tracks, clay pits. Paper copy and original paper on linen maps. Paper map photographed in sections. It seems that John Pytches had his own estate in Ickleton but also managed the estate of Clare College. Over time, some confusion had crept in as to the ownership of the land. It is likely that the upcoming enclosure (the Inclosure Act for Ickleton was enacted in 1810) spurred the College and Pytches to clarify matters and produce a map and terrier of their holdings.
