It seems that John Pytches had his own estate in Ickleton but also managed the estate of Clare College. Over time, some confusion had crept in as to the ownership of the land. It is likely that the upcoming enclosure (the Inclosure Act for Ickleton was enacted in 1810) spurred the College and Pytches to clarify matters and produce a map and terrier of their holdings.Thumbnail:
