Hovells April 2011

Hovells is a timber framed building which retains many original features. It was possibly 2 separate houses - the northern cross wing with the gable end facing the street and the southern wing along the street front. This probably accounts for the arrangement of rooms upstairs not being 'square'. More recently it was divided with the southernmost rooms being a separate dwelling. At one time it seems to have been part of a farm known as 'Turtles' (sale particulars 1865 are in the archive).  See D786  'Notes on the History of Hovells' in the Documents album.
