COVID-19 - Life in Lockdown 2020, including VE Day 75th Anniversary A new coronavirus disease (COVID-19), identified in December 2019 in China, rapidly spread worldwide, causing severe illness & death in some people but not others. The WHO declared a pandemic. On 23 March 2020 UK governments imposed lockdown restrictions to help control its spread. We were required to stay at & work from home except for essential shopping & travel. Public gatherings & social events were prohibited, schools & many retail businesses closed. Scientists rushed to understand the disease, to find treatments & a vaccine. These photos record something of life in Ickleton during lockdown. On Thursday evenings we clapped to thank NHS & key workers & children put pictures of rainbows in windows. Volunteers helped the vulnerable. As restrictions eased there were some much reduced celebrations of the 75th anniversary of VE Day with people social distancing, keeping 2m away from neighbours.Thumbnail:
